If you find yourself in New York this week, be sure to take the F train to DUMBO and check out the New York Photo Festival, which The Photoletariat is excited to be covering. The events featured this year cater heavily to the independent photographer, something we’re very happy with. Here’s a shortlist of events we plan on attending:
INSTITUTE Presents: New Directions in Storytelling
With rockstar panelists Lauren Greenfield, Gillian Laub, Jeff Jacobson and Rob Hornstra, this talk is sure to pack the house. The panel, moderated by Elizabeth Biondi, Visual Editor at New Yorker Magazine, will talk about the evolving platforms photographers now have access to, both the old ones closing and the new ones opening.
Dutchdoc!Space
This program, hosted by six Dutch photographers will be doleing out the advice on their DIY approach to photography. Topics will include instructions on self publishing photo books and getting noticed as a young photographer
Use Me Abuse Me: Curated by Erik Kessels
A fascinating exploration of how democratized technology has changed our perception of photography. All photographers have benefited from cheap and easy digital technology, but how has it altered what defines a photo?
These rest of the schedule of events is available on the NYPH website. Hope to see you there!
