In our third audio post from last month’s New York Photo Festival, a panel comprised of Elizabeth Biondi, visuals editor at The New Yorker Magazine and photographers from the photo agency INSTITUTE including Jeff Jacobson, Lauren Greenfield, Gillian Laub, and Rob Hornstra discuss how they have adapted their work to media’s changing models of publishing and distribution.  Check it out!

The hardworking photographers and designers at Ohio University are a week away from unveiling the fourth incarnation of their yearly, award winning multimedia publication, “Soul of Athens.”  Full disclosure, I am a proud graduate of Ohio University’s School of Visual Communications and worked on this project in past years.  The award winning project asks “What is the soul of Athens?” a town of roughly 40,000 in Southeast Ohio.  The answers, provided in the form of compellingly original photographs and multimedia content, are always surprising.
The site launches on June 1st, and judging from the teaser site up now, featuring crisp, engaging portraits of local characters, this years edition looks like the best one yet.

DSLRs that shoot HD video have completely changed how photographers view themselves.  With the same tool we’ve always used to take beautiful photos, we simply have to hold it still, press a button and now we’re making movies. We’re photographers right?  We love pictures, whether its shooting for ourselves or clients.  But with the changing economics of our industry, we must diversify and stop seeing ourselves as just here to make images.  We’re also here to start things ourselves and get involved.  Here are five resources to help you dip your toes into other fields and define yourself as much more than “just a photographer.”
