Smile, Chuck Fleischmann! You're a freshman Congressman!

Here’s a quick round-up of posts from around the photography world.

  • Jodi Bieber’s photo of a noseless Afghani woman has been named World Press Photo of the Year. The picture made headlines when it appeared on the cover of Time magazine last year. Bieber is one of nine press photographers who will be recognized for their work at an awards ceremony in Amsterdam on May 7. Other winners include Ed Ou, who shot images in Somalia, Daniel Morel, who covered the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, and Benjamin Lowy, who shot images of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • The Photography Post conducted an interview with Washingtonian Magazine’s Chris Leaman, who recently had the privilege of shooting the Congressional freshmen for a recent issue. Leaman discusses everything from his creative inspiration (Avedon’s iconic political portraits) to his lighting choices (Profoto head/7A), and offers some highlights of the shoots.
  • And finally, the 135th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show took place on Tuesday. The Big Picture Show’s Lloyd Young was there. Check out his work.
