I’ll admit it, I was a little slow to get involved with Twitter, after blogging steadily for a few years, 140 characters can seem so limiting. However, when I begun to realize the possibilities that it holds for learning about photography and checking out new work, I suddenly became very excited.
Twitter offers an enormous amount of information and inspiration to photographers who only need to spend a few minutes wading through their Twitter feed every week. Simply type ‘photography’ into the search bar and you’ll find links to personal work, industry news and other goodies that will peak your interest, pack your brain full of knowledge and inspire creativity.
Give it a few minutes, more tweets will load, and you can start the process all over. If you come across someone whose posts you like, you can always follow them and add their tweets to your home page.
By spending a few minutes each day last week, I found some free Photoshop downloads, read some insight on the current state of the industry, stumbled on a useful iPhone application called Easy Release, and discovered this beautiful gallery of long exposure imagery.
And that’s not even taking into account the possibilities that might be discovered if you join the discussion and send someone a personal message. I’ve even made a few professional contacts that way.
So hop on the Twitter train and find some inspiration. Now, if you’ll excuse me, there are 479 new photography-related tweets that loaded since I started writing. If you’d like to read my photography-related tweets, you can follow me at Danbaileyphoto.
